About the SNB policy rate

Swiss National Bank policy rate, from the BIS policy-rate data set (WS_CBPOL, CH). Current: 0.00% on Sep 17, 2026. Since June 2019 this is the SNB policy rate; 2000–2019 is the mid-point of the target range; earlier years are the discount rate.

The chart is a step at policy changes. From Jan 1, 1946 to Sep 17, 2026 (29,480 observations): mean 2.10%, median 1.75%; low -0.75% (Jan 15, 2015), high 7.00% (Aug 16, 1991). Not a mortgage or deposit rate. This page is not an official BIS publication.

Reading this series

The Swiss National Bank's policy rate is the rate the SNB uses to steer monetary conditions in Switzerland. This page uses the BIS central bank policy rate series for Switzerland (WS_CBPOL), compiled with the SNB. Since June 2019 the series is the SNB policy rate; from 2000 to 2019 it is the mid-point of the SNB's target range for the three-month Libor, and earlier years are the discount rate. The BIS stitches these instruments into one comparable series, and the rate changes only at SNB decisions, so it is drawn as daily steps.

Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line; when the rate has been held, the page shows the date of the last actual move. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the observations in this build, not official aggregates. Chart and Table show the same series two ways, range buttons filter the drawn window, and Explore loads zoom and pan on request. The policy rate is not a mortgage or deposit rate, and this page is not an official BIS publication.

About this desk

The Canada desk leads with the Bank of Canada's target for the overnight rate, then CORRA, the Canadian Overnight Repo Rate Average. US, UK and other official rates follow in the menu. The target is a policy setting the Bank changes at fixed announcement dates; CORRA is a market benchmark calculated from repo transactions and published, not set, by the Bank. Keeping both on one desk shows the policy rate and the market rate it steers.

All series are read from official files and republished without alteration. As on the US desk, Canadian dates are written month-first. The build covers two Canadian series only; it does not publish a Canadian mortgage or deposit rate because none is ingested. Every desk shows the same set in a different order, so the numbers are identical whichever desk you use. Nothing here is financial advice.
