About Mexico's overnight target
Banco de México overnight target, from the BIS policy-rate data set (WS_CBPOL, MX). Current: 6.50% on 17 Sep 2026. Since 2008 this is the money-market overnight target; 1998–2008 is the bank funding rate.
The chart is a step at policy changes. From 3 Nov 1998 to 17 Sep 2026 (10,181 observations): mean 7.75%, median 7.01%; low 3.00% (6 Jun 2014), high 36.41% (14 Jan 1999). Not a mortgage or deposit rate. This page is not an official BIS publication.

Reading this series
Banco de México's overnight target is the policy rate the central bank uses to guide short-term peso interest rates. This page uses the BIS central bank policy rate series for Mexico (WS_CBPOL), compiled with Banxico, stored as dated level changes and drawn as a daily step series from 1998. Since 2008 the series is the money-market overnight target; from 1998 to 2008 it is the bank funding rate, the instrument used before the current framework. The target changes only at Banxico's monetary-policy decisions.
Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line. Where the target has been unchanged, the page shows the date of the last actual move instead of zero changes. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the observations in this build and are not official figures. Chart and Table present the same series two ways, the range buttons filter what is drawn, and Explore adds zoom and pan on request. The overnight target is not a mortgage or deposit rate, and this page is not an official BIS publication.
About this desk
The South Africa desk leads with the SARB repo rate, from the BIS central bank policy rate series for South Africa, then US, UK and ECB rates. The repo rate is the rate at which the South African Reserve Bank lends to banks against eligible collateral; the BIS series records it as dated level changes from 1980 and the page draws it as daily steps. It is the country's main policy rate, not a mortgage or deposit rate.
This desk is reachable at its address but is not listed in the Country selector, and the page is set to noindex. All desks show the same official series in a different order, so the numbers match the hub. Values are republished with attribution to the BIS; this site is not an official BIS publication. The build ingests no South African retail rate series, so none is shown. This is not financial advice.
