About Sweden's policy rate

Sveriges Riksbank policy rate (styrräntan), from the BIS policy-rate data set (WS_CBPOL, SE). Current: 1.75% on 17 Sep 2026. Since 1994 this is the repo rate; earlier stretches splice the marginal rate and the discount rate.

The chart is a step at policy changes. From 2 Jan 1946 to 17 Sep 2026 (29,479 observations): mean 4.80%, median 4.10%; low -0.50% (17 Feb 2016), high 500.00% (17 Sep 1992). Not a mortgage or deposit rate. This page is not an official BIS publication.

Reading this series

Sweden's policy rate, styrräntan, is set by Sveriges Riksbank and is the rate the Riksbank uses to steer monetary policy. This page uses the BIS central bank policy rate series for Sweden (WS_CBPOL), compiled with the Riksbank. Since 1994 the series is the repo rate; earlier stretches splice the marginal rate and the discount rate, which were the policy instruments of their day. The rate changes only at Riksbank decisions, so it is drawn as a daily step series.

Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line; when the rate has been held, the page shows the date of the last actual move. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the observations in this build, not official aggregates. Chart and Table show the same series two ways, the range buttons filter the drawn window only, and Explore loads zoom and pan on request. The policy rate is not a mortgage or deposit rate, and this page is not an official BIS publication.

About this desk

The Australia desk leads with the RBA's cash rate target, then New Zealand's OCR and the US federal funds rate, with the rest of the build's series after them. The cash rate is the RBA board's policy target for the overnight money market, published in the F1 daily and F1.1 monthly tables; the page uses the daily target for the headline and the monthly history for the long chart. Because it changes only at board meetings, the series is drawn as steps.

All desks show the same official series, reordered toward one economy; the figures do not change with the desk. Values are republished from official files without alteration. The build publishes no Australian mortgage or deposit rate, because no official series for those is ingested — the desk omits them rather than estimating. This is not financial advice, and readings may lag their source.
