About the ECB deposit facility rate
The ECB deposit facility rate is the euro area headline policy rate since September 2024 (FM.D.U2.EUR.4F.KR.DFR.LEV). Current: 2.50% on 17 Sep 2026. Germany, France, Italy and other euro-area countries share this single ECB series.
From 1 Jan 1999 to 17 Sep 2026 (10,122 observations): mean 1.10%, median 1.00%; low -0.50% (18 Sep 2019), high 4.00% (20 Sep 2023). Source: ECB statistics. Not a mortgage or deposit rate.
The ECB deposit facility rate is the interest rate the European Central Bank pays on overnight deposits from banks, and since September 2024 it has been the euro area's headline policy rate. It comes from the ECB Data Portal series FM.D.U2.EUR.4F.KR.DFR.LEV, with a daily record from 1999. The ECB Governing Council sets it at its monetary-policy meetings, so the chart is stepped at those decisions. Germany, France, Italy, Ireland and the euro-area desk all share this single ECB series; the site does not invent separate national policy rates for them.
Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line; where the rate has been unchanged, the page surfaces the date of the last actual move. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the daily readings in this build. The range buttons filter what is drawn, and Chart and Table show the same series in two forms. The deposit facility is a central-bank policy rate, not a mortgage or deposit rate; the separate €STR page covers the euro overnight market rate instead.
About this desk
Germany has no separate policy rate in this build. The Germany desk therefore leads with the ECB deposit facility rate, the euro-area policy rate set by the ECB Governing Council, then €STR, the euro overnight market benchmark. UK, US and other official rates follow. Germany is in the euro area, so its monetary policy is set in Frankfurt; inventing a Bundesbank policy series would misrepresent the data, and the desk does not do that.
France and Italy share the same two ECB series, and the /ea/ desk is their natural home. The figures are read from the ECB Data Portal and republished with attribution under the ESCB statistics reuse policy. Every desk shows the same set in a different order, so switching desks changes the menu, not the numbers. The build ingests no German retail rate series, so none is shown. This is not financial advice.
