About €STR
The euro short-term rate (€STR) is the euro area’s unsecured overnight borrowing rate (EST.B.EU000A2X2A25.WT). Current: 2.19% on 15 Sep 2026. The ECB publishes it; it is not a policy rate. Series from 1 October 2019.
Chart and long-run stats use month-ends; the headline is the latest daily print. From 31 Oct 2019 to 15 Sep 2026 (84 months): mean 1.33%, median 1.92%; low -0.59% (31 Mar 2022), high 3.90% (28 Mar 2024). Source: ECB statistics. Not the deposit facility, and not a mortgage or deposit rate.
The euro short-term rate, or €STR, is the euro area's unsecured overnight borrowing benchmark, based on transactions reported by banks. The ECB publishes it from its Data Portal as series EST.B.EU000A2X2A25.WT, and the series begins on 1 October 2019. The ECB administers and publishes €STR but does not set it: it is a market rate that tracks overnight euro funding conditions, so it moves daily and is not stepped.
The headline is the latest daily print; the chart and long-run statistics use month-ends so the browser is not asked to draw every observation. Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line for the direction of the last change. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the observations in this build, not official aggregates. Chart and Table show the same series two ways, the range buttons shorten the window without recalculating, and Explore adds zoom and pan on request. €STR is not the deposit facility rate, and neither is a mortgage or deposit rate.
About this desk
The United Kingdom desk leads with Bank Rate, the Bank of England's policy rate, then SONIA, the sterling overnight market benchmark the Bank publishes but does not set. Euro-area, US, Canadian and Australian rates follow, with the rest of the build's series after them. All desks republish the same official series; this desk only reorders the menu and the wording, so the figures do not change when you switch desks.
Both UK series come from Bank of England statistical tables and are republished under the Bank's open-data terms, with attribution. Bank Rate is a policy setting that moves at MPC decisions; SONIA is a transaction-based market rate that moves daily. The build does not publish a UK retail mortgage or savings rate, because no such official series is ingested here — those pages are absent rather than estimated. This is not financial advice.
