About €STR

The euro short-term rate (€STR) is the euro area’s unsecured overnight borrowing rate (EST.B.EU000A2X2A25.WT). Current: 2.19% on Sep 15, 2026. The ECB publishes it; it is not a policy rate. Series from 1 October 2019.

Chart and long-run stats use month-ends; the headline is the latest daily print. From Oct 31, 2019 to Sep 15, 2026 (84 months): mean 1.33%, median 1.92%; low -0.59% (Mar 31, 2022), high 3.90% (Mar 28, 2024). Source: ECB statistics. Not the deposit facility, and not a mortgage or deposit rate.

Reading this series

The euro short-term rate, or €STR, is the euro area's unsecured overnight borrowing benchmark, based on transactions reported by banks. The ECB publishes it from its Data Portal as series EST.B.EU000A2X2A25.WT, and the series begins on 1 October 2019. The ECB administers and publishes €STR but does not set it: it is a market rate that tracks overnight euro funding conditions, so it moves daily and is not stepped.

The headline is the latest daily print; the chart and long-run statistics use month-ends so the browser is not asked to draw every observation. Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line for the direction of the last change. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the observations in this build, not official aggregates. Chart and Table show the same series two ways, the range buttons shorten the window without recalculating, and Explore adds zoom and pan on request. €STR is not the deposit facility rate, and neither is a mortgage or deposit rate.

About this desk

The United States desk leads with the effective federal funds rate, the market average published by the Federal Reserve and republished here from FRED. Bank Rate, the ECB deposit facility, Australia's cash rate and Canada's overnight rate follow in the menu, with the remaining official series after them. Every desk shows the same series in this build; the desk only changes the order and the wording, so the federal funds page carries the same data whether you arrive from /us/ or the hub. The US desk is also one of the two whose dates are written month-first.

The figures are read from official files and republished without alteration. Fed funds is a market rate set inside the FOMC's target range, not a rate the central bank fixes; the target range itself is not published on this site. Nothing here is advice, and readings may lag their source.
