About the Selic target
Brazil’s Selic target, from the BIS policy-rate data set (WS_CBPOL, BR). Current: 14.00% on 17 Sep 2026. Since 1999 this is the overnight Selic target; earlier stretches splice other Banco Central do Brasil instruments.
The chart is a step at policy changes. From 4 Jun 1986 to 17 Sep 2026 (14,716 observations): mean 1674.34%, median 15.00%; low 2.00% (6 Aug 2020), high 790799.14% (19 Feb 1990). Not a mortgage or deposit rate. This page is not an official BIS publication.

Reading this series
Brazil's Selic target is the policy rate set by the Banco Central do Brasil's Copom committee and is the anchor for the overnight interbank rate. This page uses the BIS central bank policy rate series for Brazil (WS_CBPOL), compiled with the Banco Central do Brasil, stored as dated level changes and drawn as daily steps from 1986. Since 1999 the series is the overnight Selic target; earlier stretches splice other central-bank instruments, which the BIS converts into a comparable policy measure. The target changes only at Copom decisions.
Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line. When the target has been held, the page surfaces the date of the last actual move rather than zero changes. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the observations in this build, not official aggregates. Chart and Table show the same series two ways, the range buttons filter the drawn window, and Explore loads zoom and pan on request. The Selic target is a policy rate, not a mortgage or deposit rate, and this page is not an official BIS publication.
About this desk
The Sweden desk leads with the Riksbank policy rate, styrräntan, from the BIS central bank policy rate series for Sweden, then Norway, ECB and UK rates. Since 1994 the series is the repo rate; earlier stretches splice the marginal rate and the discount rate, which were the policy instruments of their day. The BIS stitches them into one comparable series, drawn as daily steps. It is a policy rate, not a retail lending rate.
All desks show the same official series in a different order, so the numbers do not change when you switch. Values are republished with attribution to the BIS; this site is not an official BIS publication. The build ingests no Swedish mortgage or deposit series, so those pages are absent rather than estimated. This is not financial advice.
