About the discount rate
CBC discount rate (EG28D01en). Current: 2.00% on 17 Sep 2026. Taiwan's policy rate; chart is stepped at CBC board decisions.
From 1 Apr 1989 to 17 Sep 2026 (13,684 observations): mean 3.07%, median 2.00%; low 1.12% (20 Mar 2020), high 7.75% (23 Aug 1989). Not a mortgage or deposit rate.
Taiwan's discount rate is the policy rate of the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan), set by its board and published in the CBC Statistical Database as series EG28D01en. This page shows it as a daily step series from 1989, with the rate flat between board meetings and changing on decision dates. The discount rate is the rate at which banks can borrow from the CBC against eligible paper; it is a policy instrument, not a mortgage or deposit rate, and the CBC also operates other facilities.
Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line. When the board has left the rate unchanged, the page shows the date of the last actual move rather than a row of zero changes. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the daily readings in this build, so a long period at one setting pulls them toward it. Chart and Table present the same series two ways, the range buttons only filter what is drawn, and Explore adds zoom and pan on request.
About this desk
The Sweden desk leads with the Riksbank policy rate, styrräntan, from the BIS central bank policy rate series for Sweden, then Norway, ECB and UK rates. Since 1994 the series is the repo rate; earlier stretches splice the marginal rate and the discount rate, which were the policy instruments of their day. The BIS stitches them into one comparable series, drawn as daily steps. It is a policy rate, not a retail lending rate.
All desks show the same official series in a different order, so the numbers do not change when you switch. Values are republished with attribution to the BIS; this site is not an official BIS publication. The build ingests no Swedish mortgage or deposit series, so those pages are absent rather than estimated. This is not financial advice.
