Reading this series

The Base Rate is the Bank of Korea's policy interest rate, set by its Monetary Policy Board. This page reads the Bank's published base-rate change list and shows the rate as a daily step series from May 1999, when the current Base Rate framework began. Because the Board changes it only at policy meetings, the line is flat between decisions and jumps on announcement dates; the chart is drawn accordingly. The Base Rate is the policy anchor for Korean money-market rates, not a retail lending or deposit rate.

Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line. Where the Board has held the rate, the page surfaces the date of the last actual change instead of a run of zero values. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the daily observations in this build; a long hold at one level pulls them toward it.
