About the discount rate
CBC discount rate (EG28D01en). Current: 2.00% on Sep 17, 2026. Taiwan's policy rate; chart is stepped at CBC board decisions.
From Apr 1, 1989 to Sep 17, 2026 (13,684 observations): mean 3.07%, median 2.00%; low 1.12% (Mar 20, 2020), high 7.75% (Aug 23, 1989). Not a mortgage or deposit rate.
Taiwan's discount rate is the policy rate of the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan), set by its board and published in the CBC Statistical Database as series EG28D01en. This page shows it as a daily step series from 1989, with the rate flat between board meetings and changing on decision dates. The discount rate is the rate at which banks can borrow from the CBC against eligible paper; it is a policy instrument, not a mortgage or deposit rate, and the CBC also operates other facilities.
Read the headline with its as-of date, then the "versus the previous reading" line. When the board has left the rate unchanged, the page shows the date of the last actual move rather than a row of zero changes. Mean, median, low and high are arithmetic summaries of the daily readings in this build, so a long period at one setting pulls them toward it. Chart and Table present the same series two ways, the range buttons only filter what is drawn, and Explore adds zoom and pan on request.
